Hi MoI'ers,

Firstly let me apologise for the life story.

I've been looking for a few months at buying a modelling package, I've downloaded several (if not all) try before you buy packages, the usual stuff that gets recommended and shouted about, Rhino, Modo, Z-Brush, Mudbox etc.
And all the freebie packages Blue4D, Metasequoia, Wings etc. (I actually quite liked Metasequoia, except for the fact it's hard to read Japanese and 1 tutorial in translated German) and others that contain modelling as a part of the whole, Max, Maya, C4D, (didn't bother with Lightwave) Blender etc.
I'm sure you get the picture. I've done some modelling in Lightwave (version 7.5 if I remember correctly), at college, but found it not very intuitive or fun, it might be better now.

I've produced 3D stills for Films, games and modern art so I understand the technical side and use photoshop in my day job as a graphic designer. My main renderer is Vue Infinite 6 as I find it fun and easy to get great result, coupled with the (please don't laugh or send me rude e-mails) Poser (I like it, it's cheapish and cheerful) which I use the models like clipart, coming from a graphic designers BG, so I'm a professional-amateur-hobbiest.

But strangely' they (clients) always want things not available at stores or in the freebies and this is my dilema, I NEED TO MODEL and the quicker the better and as a bonus it will give me more creative freedom.

I've narrowed the search down to 2 maybe 3 packages. MoI, Silo and possibly urmmm! alright maybe 2, I don't need to know the "industry standard packages".

I don't have the time to thoroughly try them all out, some I've discounted when I'm presented with the Enterprise 107D main console as a UI and the others crash, behave badly or don't start on my 64bit system etc. etc. etc...


My questions are:

1. Will MoI and Silo compliment each other

2. Is it overkill to have both MoI and Silo

3. If only one is needed to model what ever might be asked of me to model, which would you choose (non biased please)

4. Would you say forget MoI and Silo and go for....


Please remember I'm a general artist/dogs body and if you can imagine it, they usually ask me to model it and modelling will save me a small fortune in the long run.
