Hi Nick, yup this is something that I want to add in the future, I'm thinking they will be called "orientation" tools.

I've added this to the wiki wishlist to keep track of it better, with a link back to your example post.

For now you do have to use a sequence of move + rotate (or rotate axis).

I guess I had better get started on V2 sometime pretty soon to make some progress on all these wishes! :)
