That pattern might be the same as the one on the cover of "Islamic Design: A Genius for Geometry" by Daud Sutton. I have the Japanese edition of this book.

The pattern exists in "Making Things Fit." I've only read it superficially, so I'm not sure if reading the book would help you understand how to draw it. It seems a bit difficult to me. However, the information in the chapter "Six for One" might be a hint, so if you don't have the book, it might be worth taking a look.

Like you, I have an interest in Islamic patterns, and just a few months ago, I made something like this with a program.
