Hi John, you'll only get top and bottom end caps on an extrude where the profile curve being extruded is both planar and closed.

In your case here the curve is planar so that part is ok, but it is not closed, this area here is open:



You'll need to finish the outline to make it closed to get the end caps generated when extruding.
