Detach Selection?

Hello,

is it possible to somehow detach the selection to a new object?
I dont mean a face or edge selection, but the one when you have multiple seperate "meshes" in one "object" (not quite sure if I got MoI`s terminology right...) and just click once on one of them.

"Separate" seperates all faces between eachother and still leaves them in one object. Thats unfortunately not what I need...
