As you can see the Michael example result is "inside" so just enable case "Flip Surface Normal" in the Flow Menu fonction
For the surface maybe this if i well understand your question...
Of course curves 3 & 7 can be an Arc little rounded... (2 little white spheres show trimming points of the oval curve)
